Susan Nase is a tap dancer, singer, and Scottish highland dancer born and raised in Saskatoon SK. After a brief career as a chemical engineer in Calgary AB, Susan took her artistic talents to New York City in 2008 where she was selected to perform with 7 other world-class tap dancers in the US tour of Thank You Gregory! A Tribute to the Legends of Tap featuring Maurice Hines. During her 4-year stay in NYC she had the pleasure to perform with some of the city’s top choreographers, including Bessie Award winning Michelle Dorrance, Max Pollak and his troupe Rumba Tap, and fellow Canadian Lisa LaTouche. Susan has traveled to international festivals in Turkey, Italy, USA, Brazil and Greece to perform and study world and body music and was a regular guest tap dancer with NYC based band, Banda Magda. She was featured in a video for www.congahead.com with Banda Magda, produced by Martin Cohen, founder of Latin Percussion (LP). Currently, Susan is working with renowned Kathak dancer Amika Kushwaha on ‘Tatkaar’ which creatively blends the complexities of the centuries old Indian Classical Dance, with the contemporary American art form of Rhythm Tap Dance, to explore percussion through dance.
In addition to tap dance, Susan is an accomplished singer, having performed as a member of Bridges Vocal Ensemble under the direction of Bettina Sheppard at renowned New York venues including Carnegie Hall and New York City Center. She is a co-founder of Shot of Scotch, a professional premier level Scottish highland dance troupe with branches in NYC and Vancouver that has performed at Lincoln Center, Mohonk Mountain House, in New York City’s annual Tartan Day Parade, and at the BC Highland Games.
As an arts educator, Susan has presented many dance and music workshops across Canada and the US. In the role of school liaison and lead presenter of the B.C. Schizophrenia Society’s ReachOut Psychosis Concert Tour she has had the opportunity to tour high schools across B.C. since the fall of 2013. Susan is thrilled to contribute to the rich mix of education and entertainment that drives the program’s essential message.
Susan currently resides, teaches and performs in Vancouver, Canada. www.susannase.com
